PhD Positions

We are looking for motivated PhD candidates to join the lab's research on causal AI, reinforcement learning, game theory, and next-generation networks. A strong mathematical foundation is essential, particularly in probability, stochastic processes, optimization, and machine learning. Beyond technical preparation, we place real value on intellectual curiosity. The research here rewards candidates who enjoy open-ended mathematical problems and creative, non-standard thinking, rather than those who are most comfortable with routine textbook exercises.

We especially encourage applications from candidates with a GATE rank within the top 50, or with a Bachelor's degree from an IIT or NIT and a strong CGPA. Candidates with a top-50 GATE rank may also be eligible for the Institute's Director's Platinum Jubilee Excellence PhD Fellowship (DPEF); current details are available on the admission page linked below.

Admission is through IIT Kharagpur's round-the-year (rolling) PhD admission process, with applications reviewed each quarter. Prospective candidates should apply through the official portal, and are also welcome to write to me beforehand to discuss research directions and fit.

IIT Kharagpur Rolling PhD Admission

MS by Research

An MS by Research position in the lab is available through project funding. Candidates who join one of the lab's funded research projects, and who meet the institute's eligibility requirements based on their Bachelor's degree, can be considered for enrolment in the MS by Research programme. If this route interests you, please get in touch to discuss current project openings and eligibility.

Project Staff Updates coming soon

The lab is currently in the process of transferring an ongoing research project to IIT Kharagpur. Openings for project staff, such as Junior and Senior Research Fellows and project associates, will be announced here once the transfer is complete. If you would like to be considered, you are welcome to write to me in advance to register your interest.

Contact

The best way to reach the lab is by email. Prospective students are encouraged to write with a short note on their background and research interests, together with a CV.
